Once in the possession of the razor and as Nonno Michele was asked to perform his "duties ", he slashed the prison officer, who later died of his injuries. Nonno Michele was sentenced to a more remote prison with a death penalty sentence. On his journey there, he was able to escape with other prisoners and spent the next twenty five years as a fugitive in Argentina, Brazil,Bolivia and Columbia, all the while avoiding capture and eventually making his way back to the (now enlarged) Aquaro family in Forenza, Italy, where he settled and died a peacefull death in his 80's......A depiction from stories and recordings by his (long suffering) wife and my grandmother Filomena.
I have been painting and drawing ever since I can remember.....fueled by an adrenalin rush that grips me when a particular idea or image presents itself and stubbornly leads me to a sketch pad and canvas! Although I have been an art teacher, I am self-taught and have painted and drawn mostly for self-gratification. However, it gives me great satisfaction when my work is acknowledged and gives pleasure to an onlooker. I was born in Forenza, Italy, a small town in southern Italy, in 1953. I have derived great pleasure from my art, sometimes happy to give some of my work away as gifts, content in the knowledge that it would be enjoyed and cared for. My only regret is that I did not take scans or photos of the pieces, now scattered all...
