About Giovanni Caputo
I have been painting and drawing ever since I can remember.....fueled by an adrenalin rush that grips me when a particular idea or image presents itself and stubbornly leads me to a sketch pad and canvas! Although I have been an art teacher, I am self-taught and have painted and drawn mostly for self-gratification. However, it gives me great satisfaction when my work is acknowledged and gives pleasure to an onlooker.
I was born in Forenza, Italy, a small town in southern Italy, in 1953. I have derived great pleasure from my art, sometimes happy to give some of my work away as gifts, content in the knowledge that it would be enjoyed and cared for. My only regret is that I did not take scans or photos of the pieces, now scattered all over the world.....as it was never my intention to forge a living solely out of art....just personal gratification from the creative process - and ensuing challenges - of transforming dreams, ideas and visions into visual art.
I have retained a large portion of my early portfolio and have continued to produce work throughout my life. A selection is included on the fineartamerica site.
From Forenza my family emigrated to St Albans, England when I was 7 and the two towns, along with my family, have played an influential part in my art. I am happy to work in any media and size and have in recent years been happy to execute many world-wide commissions small and large alike. However, pursuing my own dreams and interpreting my own creations is my ultimate gratification.
I hope you enjoy my work and that it gives you some pleasure. Ciao!!!!
